Maternal Maternal Line

Abigail Bonsall was born about 1678 in Ashford, Derbyshire, England. She was one of ten children born to Richard Bonsall and Mary Wood. On July 2, 1702 Abigail married Joseph Rhodes at the Darby Meeting in Delaware County, Pennyslvania. Abigail and Joseph were the parents of Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail, John, Joseph, Benjamin and James. Abigail died on September 11, 1750.


Richard Bonsall was born about 1656 in Ashford, Derbyshire, England. He was the son of Joseph Bonsall and an unknown mother. In 1675 Richard married Mary Wood. Richard and Mary were the parents of two unknown female children, Elizabeth, Rachel, Abigail, Ann, Jacob, Benjamin, Enoch and Eleanor. The family were Quakers and when they immigrated they came from Mouldridge, in the Parish of Bradburne, County Derby, bringing a certificate from the monthly meeting at Asheford dated 12 mo. (February), 22, 1683. "To remove himself into America with his whole family with ye consent of ffriends." The certificate signed by sixteen members of the Asheford Meeting, none of whom bore the surname of Bonsall, was deposited at Darby Monthly Meeting near Philadelphia in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The family settled on 200 acres of land on the east side of Darby creek, including the present site of Kellyville, Upper Darby. Richard died on September 13, 1699 in Darby, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He made a will on his death bed in the presence of his brother-in-law, John Wood, Michael Blunston, and John Hood, who were choosen by his children who were of age to administer to the estate.

Joseph Bonsall was baptized on March 5, 1639 in Hartington, Derbyshire, England. Joseph and an unknown woman were the parents of Richard and Joseph.
