Herschal Francis French was born on December 6, 1891 in Allenville, Moultrie
County, Illinois. The youngest child born to William D. French
and Mary L. C. Hencle. On September 5, 1914 he married
Daisy Mae Barnes, the widow Coverstone,
in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois. Herschal and Daisy were
the parents of three boys and three girls including one set of
twins. In 1915 Herschal was a drayman, a drayman is a person whose
work is hauling loads by dray. A dray is a low, sturdily built
cart with detachable sides, for carrying heavy loads. At this
time an exact date of death is unknown, family states he died
in September 1945. Herschal is buried in French Cemetery, Allenville,
Moultrie County, Illinois. He is buried next to his father and
has no stone.
William D. French was born
on October 28, 1845 in Moultrie County, Illinois. One of three
sons born to William French and Sarah Franklin.
He was married to Mary L. C. Hencle on August 30, 1866
in Sullivan, Moultrie County, Illinois. William and Mary were
the parents of Sarah Louisa, Susan Kisar, Rosa Olive, William
Maldon and Herschal Francis. William was a farmer. He is buried
in French Cemetery, Allenville, Moultrie County, Illinois.
Mary L. C. Hencle was born on
October 25, 1849 in Indiana. She died on April 14, 1914 and is
buried in French Cemetery, Allenville, Moultrie County, Illinois.
William
French was the child of William French and an unknown
mother. William married Sarah Franklin and they
were the parents of William D., Andrew Jackson and Simeon. He
donated the land for the French Cemetery in Allenville, Moultrie
County, Illinois during the 1870's and deeded the land to trustees
in 1892.
William French was born on February
15, 1783. He was the son of Lafford French and an unknown
mother. William and an unknown woman would be the parents of William.
William died in San Augustine, Texas.
Lafford
French was born in 1753 in Raritan, Somerset County, New Jersey.
He is one of three sons born to Joseph French and Hannah
Horn. Lafford married first an unknown
women who would be the mother of Mary, William, Joseph, James
Lewis, Moses, Ruth, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Lafford. The unknown
woman would die before 1806 when Lafford was married to Elizabeth
Gregory. Lafford served as a private in the Revolutionary
War. Serving in the South Carolina militia in regiments lead by
Roebuck and Thomas. Lafford participated in the Battle of Musgrove's
Mill and the Siege of Augusta. Later served under Captain Wood
as a scout against the Indians and Tories. His last service was
in the North Carolina Militia out of Rutherford County under Captain
James McFadden. He received his pension out of Rutherford County.
Lafford died in September 1834 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.
Joseph
French was born after 1722 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County,
New Jersey. He was the son of Joseph French and Allee/Adlee
unknown last name. Joseph was married to Hannah Horn
in 1749. Joseph and Hannah were the parents of Lafford, Joseph
and William. Joseph moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina, which
is were he died.
Joseph French was born on
July 23, 1698 in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. He is the child of Thomas
French and Mary Allen. He was married to Allee\Adlee
unknown last name about 1722. They were the parents of Joseph,
Mary and Francis. Joseph died in 1752 in New Jersey.
Thomas
French was born on October 21, 1667 in Nether Hayford, Northampton,
England. Thomas is the son of Thomas French and Jane
Atkins. He immigrated with his family to New Jersey in 1680.
Thomas married Mary Allen. Thomas and Mary are the parents
of Joseph. Thomas died in 1745 in Morristown, Burlinton County,
New Jersey.
Mary Allen was born in
1670 and died in 1730 in New Jersey.
Thomas French
was born in 1639 in Nether Hayford, Northampton, England, the
son of Thomas French and an unknown mother. Thomas married
Jane Atkins in 1660. Thomas and Jane were the parents of
Thomas. In 1680 they immigrated to New Jersey.
Jane Atkins was born in
1640 and died in 1692.
Thomas French was
born about 1611 in Nether Hayford, Northampton, England. Thomas
and an unknown woman were the parents of Thomas. Thomas died on
May 5, 1673 in Nether Hayford, Northampton, England.
