Sarah Elizabeth Gilbert
was born on June 12, 1858 in Greenup Township, Cumberland County,
Illinois. The eldest daughter of William N. Gilbert and
Mary Catherine Snider. Sarah
married Silas E. Ross, they were
the parents of William Gilbert, Leslie Irene, Josh and Ernest
Walter. In 1925 Sarah was living with her daughter Leslie in Mattoon,
Coles County, Illinois. The family would move often between Illinois
and Oklahoma. Sarah died in April of 1940 in Yale, Oklahoma.
William N. Gilbert
was born on August 10, 1833 in Licking County, Ohio. He was married
to Mary Catherine Snider on May
1, 1853. William and Mary where the parents of Jacob Henry, Joseph,
Sarah Elizabeth, John, Jess Merton, Michael, Florence and George
Washington. William served in the Civil War in Company B, 123rd
Regiment of the Illinois Volunteer Infantry. William died on May
4, 1875 and is buried in Paul Cemetery, Cumberland County, Illinois.
