Sarah Hollowell
was born on March 3, 1794 in Contentnea, Wayne County, North Carolina.
She is one of eight children born to John Hollwell and
Miriam Overman. Sarah married
John Breeze on September 17,
1810 in Harrison County, Indiana. Sarah and John were the parents
of Jesse, Richard, Thomas, David S., Jonathan H. Cornelius Newkirk,
Reuben Allen and Mary Jane. Sarah died on September 16, 1834 in
Marion County, Illinois and was buried in Fulton Cemetery, Haines
Township, Marion County, Illinois. By 1996 Fulton Cemetery was
almost inaccessible and the stones were disappearing so the family
removed the stone for Sarah Hollowell had it relettered and placed
it in Little Grove Cemetery. Her body however remains in Fulton
Cemetery.
John Hollowell was
born on January 11, 1766 in Rich Square, Northampton County, North
Carolina. He is the eldest son of Thomas Hollowell and
Mary Peele. John married Miriam
Overman on January 21, 1786 in
Wayne County, North Carolina. John and Miriam were the parents
of Henry, Jesse, Mary, Sarah, Jonathan, Eli, Aaron and John. John
was the first settler of Southeast Township in Orange County Indiana,
his registration of 160 acres taking place on June 30, 1807. John's
homeplace was a few rods west of the Christian Church on what
is commonly known as the "Point" along the banks of
Patoka Creek. A cave in the rocks close by is said to have been
his abode while he built his home. John was alone in his settlement
until he was joined by John Hobson and Robert Breeze. Within the
bounds of Southeast township there is only the town of Valeene,
it was laid out April 10, 1837 by John Hollowell, Sr. and John
Hollowell, Jr.. John died on February 6, 1855 in Valeene, Orange
County, Indiana and was buried in Bluff Springs Cemetery, Orange
County, Indiana. This cemetery is also known as Valeene Christian
Church Cemetery.
Thomas Hollowell was born on December 4, 1739 in Norfolk
County, Virginia. He is the son of John Hollowell and Sarah
Roundtree. Thomas was a Quaker. On December 1, 1760 at the
Perquimans Monthly Meeting, Perquimans County, North Carolina,
Thomas requested a certificate to marry at the Monthly meeting
in Northampton County, North Carolina. On December 7, 1760, Thomas
produced said certificate from Perquimans County and married Mary
Peele at the Rich Square Monthly
Meeting, Northampton County, North Carolina. Thomas and Mary were
the parents of Abigail, Sarah, John, Robert, Miriam, Robert, William,
Thomas and Joseph Jesse. Sometime after 1780 they moved west and
Thomas would die on March 23, 1821 in Valeene, Orange County,
Indiana.
John Hollowell was
born on January 21, 1695. He was the eldest child born to John
Hollowell and Elizabeth Scott. John married first on
November 21, 1720 Ann Henley, she being the widow of William
Newby. About 1728 John married Sarah Roundtree.
John and Sarah were the parents of Rachel, Mary, Sarah, John and
Thomas.
John Hollowell is the child of Thomas
Hollowell and Alice last name unknown. John married
Elizabeth Scott. John and Elizabeth were the parents of John, Elizabeth,
Thomas, Sarah, Edmund, William, Mary, Juday, and Joseph.
Thomas
Hollowell was married to Alice
last name unknown and they had John.
