Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth (Mender) Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Mender, was born at The Plains, January 17, 1851 and departed this life June 1, 1923 at the age of 73 years, four months and 14 days. She was united in marriage to William Tucker of this city March 4, 1870 and this union was blessed with nine children, five daughters and four sons. During her long illness her suffering was intense, but she was patient, never murmuring nor complaining even after she was stricken down, altho she couldn't speak, she tried to smile at and for her loved ones who did all that they possibly could to restore her back to health but all in vain, "God knoweth best." The death angel took her away. When just a young girl she was baptized and united to the Methodist Episcopal church. Her greatest delight was to make others happy and to give her aid to all those who called upon her for help in time of need, she was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her father, mother, two brothers John and Wallace, one sister Rosean and also two sons, John and William, two daughters, Mary and Rose preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her husband, five children, three daughters, Elizabeth, wife of H. S. Sain, of Akron; Lucy, wife of Arthur Wallace; Garnet, wife of William Powell, all of this city; two sons, Clarence Tucker, of Oklahoma and Ed, at home, who has been mighty faithful in forsaking all and taking the home duties of caring for this beloveth mother, devoting his life to her cause and happiness. This was a sacrifice indeed, but he shall look back upon the walls of memory and rejoice because of this sacrifice of faithfulness unto his mother. This loved one also leaves a brother, Mr. Horace Mender, of this city, fifteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren besides a host of friends. As we stand gazing upon the remains of this dear deceased one it dawns on us that she is more alive in her burial then when we last saw her in life smiling and heard her sweet, kind voice in our midst.

John Mender was born in Switzerland. John married Hannah Pickett on February 14, 1844 in Athens County, Ohio. John and Hannah were the parents of Elizabeth, Horace, John, Wallace, and Rosean.
