Ann Catharine Millspaugh was born on February 6, 1836 in Sullivan County,
New York. Catherine was one of ten children born to Erastus
Elmer Millspaugh and Elizabeth Ann Denton. Catherine
married Henry Lorenzo Case on November
26, 1857 in Oyster Bay, Queens County, New York. Catherine and
Henry were the parents of William Harrison, Elmer Erastus, Edith
Mabelle and Elsie Millspaugh. Catherine appears in the census
on July 19, 1860 in Oyster Bay, Long Island, Queens County, New
York. She is listed as Catherine Case age 23 born in New York
and is living in the house of Edward Millshaw, a 24 year old carpenter
who was born in New York. Also in the household are her infant
son Wm H. Case age 4 months, Edward's wife Sarah 23 and someone
named Henry Earl age 60. She died on June 17, 1904 in Rowayton,
Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Erastus Elmer
Millspaugh was born on February 3, 1805. He was the eldest
son born to Edward M. Millspaugh and Ann Catherine Latta. Erastus married Elizabeth
Ann Denton on April 23, 1831. Erastus and Elizabeth had a
family of Edward, Ann Catherine, Andrew Valette, Lucinda, James
Denton, Jane M., Cynthia Duryea, Charles W., Erastus Elmer and
Sarah Elizabeth. Erastus was a Suveyor, Carpenter, and in the
Oyster business. Erastus died on September 2, 1886.
Elizabeth Ann Denton was born on
June 14, 1817. She died on February 18, 1889.
Edward
M. Millspaugh was born on December 8, 1781 in Hanover Precinct,
Orange County, New York. In 1782 Hanover Precinct became Montgomery
Precinct, in 1789 it became Montgomery Town in Ulster County and
in 1798 it became Montgomery Town in Orange County. Edward was
one of eleven children born to Matheis Milspah and Elsie
Kimbark. Edward married Ann Catherine Latta
on February 23, 1804 in the Presbyterian Church, Good Will, Orange
County, New York. Edward and Ann had Erastus Elmer, Ann Eliza,
Alanson, Charles E., James Latta, Nancy, Matthias M., Cornelius
Madden, Edward Theodore andJohn Hill. Edward died on June 17,
1842.
Matheis Milspah was born about 1752
in Orange County, New York. He is one of a dozen children born
to Detter Milspah and Susannah Comfort.
Matheis married Elsie Kimbark on May 1, 1776 in Montgomery,
Orange County, New York. Matheis and Elsie were the parents of
Charles, Mary, Charles, Edward M., Susannah, Abner, Andrew, Alexander,
Elizabeth, Comfort and Nancy. Matheis was a carpenter and an elder
in the Wallkill, New York Presbyterian Church. The 1790 Census
of Montgomery Town, Ulster County, New York, shows the Milspah
family on page 176, the household consisting of Matheis, four
boys under 16 and four females. He died on April 27, 1796 in Thompson
Ridge, New York.
Last will and testemant was written at Town of Montgomery, state of New York.
Else his wife and his brothers John and Peter were all his executors. Else got an equal part with children if she remained a widow. If she remarried she got her wearing apparel, her bed, her bedding and a cow. Also the management of his improvement thru the term of his lease as long as she was his widow. Rest of his estate to be equally divided among his children - Mary Charles, Edward, Susannah, Abner Alexander, Elizabeth and Nancy. Signed Matthias Milspaugh(L.S.). Witnesses were: Jonathan Mills, Robert Thompson and Daniel Sears.
Elsie Kimbark was born about
1756 in Montgomery, Orange County, New York. She died on March
15, 1831. Elsie's mothers maiden name is believed to be Bodine.
Detter Milspah was born in
1726 in Ulster County, New York. He was the middle child of Mattice
Milspah and Anna Eva Besch. Detter is mentioned in
the records of the German Reformed Dutch Brick Church of Montgomery,
New York on May 26,1741. Detter married Susannah Comfort
about 1747 and they were the parents of Matheis, Benjamin, Matheis,
William, Robert, Johannes, Adam, Peter, Stephen, Jacob, Philip
and Susannah. Detter died in February 1761.
On file in Wallkill, Ulster County, New York.
"In the name of God, Amen. I Detter Milspah of the Wallkill, in Ulster Co. Being weak in body. My burial I desire to be deasent at the descretion of my wife and executers. I leave to my dearly beloved wife, so long as she shall remain a widow, my whole estate into her hands in order to maintain my children, and after that to make an equal division amongst her and my children, allowing to my eldest son Benjamin 3 lbs 2 shillings extraordinary above any of the rest, and all of my estate, real and personal, to be equally divided. I have chosen William Comfort and Jacob Milspah executors."
His will was witnessed by Lawrence Christ,
Nicholas Milspah, and John McGleam, proved November
13, 1762 before Jacobus Bruyn, Surrogate and comfirmed
August 26,1765.
Mattice Milspah was born about 1700 in Neuwied-Am-Rheim,
Germany. Although his parents are unknown it is believed that
he has brothers named Phillip and Nicholas. Mattice immigrated
before 1721 from Holland to Montgomery, Orange County, New York.
He was married to Anna Eva Besch. Mattice and Anna were
the parents of Anna Christina, Detter and Jacob. Mattice is mentioned
in the records of the German Dutch Brick Church of Montgomery,
New York October 22,1734. He was naturalized by the New York Assembly
November 8,1735. Mattice owned land in Ulster County, New York
which he sold on May 1, 1738 to his brother Phillip. He was a
member of the Walkill Militia and a ruling elder of the church
at Montgomery 1739. In 1743 the Freeholder's of Wallkill Precinct
were required to meet at his home on April 1st yearly to elect
officers of the precinct. Mattice died about 1770.
His will is on file in New York
" In the name of God, Amen. I, Mattice Milspagh, of Wallkill precinct Ulster Co. I leave to my son Jacob all my whole estate, he is to pay all debts, funeral charges and legacies. I leave to the children of my son Peter, deceased, 40 lbs. To my daughter Christian, wife of Johannes Krans, 40 lbs. My grandchildren shall rest satisfied with the said 40 lbs as their portion, I having been helpful to my son Peter in his lifetime. I make my son Jacob Executer."
Mattice signed his will on December 6, 1769 in Wallkill, Ulster County, New York. His will was witnessed by Andrew Graham, Conrad Mere, and Johanes Bruyn. Proved April 30,1770 before Jacobus Bruyn, Surrogate and confirmed by Govornor Dummere November 3,1770.
Anna Eva Besch was born about
1702. Anna was also married to Johannes Menges, with whom
she had Anna Maria and Jeronimus.
