Maternal Maternal Line

Susanna Overholt was born on September 27, 1803. She is the eldest of seven children born to Martin Overholt and Catherine Overholt. On September 27, 1822 Susanna married Henry Shupe. Susanna and Henry were the parents of Catherine, John, Samuel, Anna and Jacob. Susanna died on September 2, 1885 and is buried in Hoffman Cemetery, Smithton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.


Martin Overholt was born in November of 1772 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was one of a dozen children born to Henry Oberholtzer and Anna Beidler. In 1802 Martin married Catherine Overholt. Although Martin and Catherine share the same last name there is at this time no proof that they are related other than by marriage. Martin and Catherine were the parents of Susanna, Esther, Anne, Abraham O., Henry O., John and Martin O.. Martin's occupations were that of a Farmer and a Weaver and he was a member of the Mennonite community. Martin died on June 18, 1835 in Sangamon (now Logan) County, Illinois.

Catherine Overholt was born on November 1, 1781 in Plumstead Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was one of six children born to Abraham Overholt and Esther unknown last name. Catherine died on December 21, 1866 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and is buried in Alverton Cemetery, Stonerville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.


Forefathers of Martin Overholt

Henry Oberholtzer was born on February 5, 1739 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He is one of five children born to Martin Oberholtzer and Agnes Kolb. Henry married Anna Beidler on January 3, 1765 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Henry and Anna were the parents of Agnes, Maria, Jacob, Anna, Martin, Barbara, Elizabeth, Henry, Sarah, Abraham, Christian and Susannah. Henry was a distiller and a farmer, his farm in Bedminster Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvannia was located next to the Deep Run Mennonite Church of which he was a member. In the summer of 1800 Henry sold his land and with his wife, five sons, seven daughters, five sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and thirteen grandchildren moved across the Allegheny mountains to settle in East Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, Pennyslvania. Sons and daughters settled on land all around him. On June 7, 1803, Henry purchased for 1300 pounds a tract of 260 acres, this tract of land was called Rostraver and is now the site of the city of West Overton in Westmoreland County, Pennyslvannia. Henry died on March 15, 1813 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and was buried in Alverton Cemetery, Stonerville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.

Martin Oberholtzer was born in 1709 near Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. He is one of six children born to Marcus Oberholtzer and Elizabeth Oberholtzer. Martin settled after 1730 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Martin was a member of the Deep Run Mennonite Church. On November 2, 1736 Martin married Agnes Kolb in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Martin and Agnes were the parents of Barbara, Henry, Maria, John and Martin. Martin died on April 5, 1744 in Bedminster Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Deep Run Mennonite Church graveyard, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Marcus Oberholtzer was born in 1664 in Germany. He is the son of Marx Oberholtzer and an unknown woman. Marcus married Elizabeth Oberholtzer, since Elizabeth's parents are unknown at this time it is impossible to know of any ancestry the two may share. Marcus and Elizabeth were the parents of Jacob, Samuel, Anna, Marcus, Elizabeth and Martin. In October 1709 the family moved from Germany to England. It is believed that they left England on board "The Mary Hope" on September 23, 1710, settling in Coventry Township, Pennsylvania. In 1719 Marcus received a warrant for 300 acres on the Schuylkill River in Chester County, Pennsylvannia just south of Pottstown. Marcus died in 1726 in Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Marx Oberholtzer married an unknown woman and fathered Marcus. Marx died in 1708.


Forefathers of Catherine Overholt

Abraham Overholt was born about 1747. One of five children born to Jacob Oberholtzer and Deborah Haldeman. Abraham married Esther unknown last name and they were the parents of Susanna, Jacob, Hannah, John, Elizabeth and Catherine. Abraham was a Yeoman and a Mennonite minister. Abraham died on March 8, 1824 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and was buried in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Abraham signed his will on November 15, 1823, in it he mentions his sons Jacob and John, daughter Catherine, wife of Martin Overholt; daughters Hannah, Elizabeth, and Susanna (single) and a farm of 118 acres in Plumstead Township, said will was proved March 18, 1824.

Esther unknown last name died on November 23, 1823.

Jacob Oberholtzer was the son of Jacob Oberholtzer and Deborah Krey. Jacob married Deborah Haldeman and they were the parents of Abraham, Jacob, Christian, Mary and Catherine. Jacob died before September 26, 1759.

Jacob Oberholtzer was born about 1686 some place in Europe. Jacob married Deborah Krey and they were the parents of Jacob and Elizabeth. Possibly as early as 1717 Jacob settled in Salford Township (now Franconia Township), Philadelphia County (now Montgomery County) as he paid fifteen years quit rent to James Steel, agent for William Penn, in 1732. Jacob married second Catherine unknown last name. Jacob died on February 11, 1755 in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
